Taco bar fundraiser

The taco bar fundraiser this past weekend was amazing. I am touched that so many friends and family came out to support us and listen to us talk about our trip. We raised around $900!!! In case you weren't there, here's a quick recap:

Food: make your own street taco - carne asada, pollo asada, 3 salsas (hot, medium, and mild), cilantro, onions, tomatoes, guacamole, spanish rice, chips. For me, the tomatillo sauce (medium salsa), was off the hook.
Music: Indonesian boy band pop, Indonesian percussion (mostly bells), and the Brothers Landau (Sarah's musician friends)
Location: The Li's house. I mostly hung out in the backyard area.
Weather: cloudy
Attendance: >30

Thanks to all who came out to support us! Be looking out for our support letters. They should be out by the end of this week!

5 weeks until departure!

Meeting #4 was this past Sunday and our ideas for how we want to serve the children of Polehan and WIS finally converged and crystallized into the mission statement below:

Our mission is to love our students through artistic and interactive lessons that spark the growth of creative roots, courageous thinking, and an enduring sense of self.

Team t-shirts, which display our team logo, were also distributed at meeting #4. Sarah came up with the idea for our logo: an elephant on a tree. If you're curious about the story behind this, come to our taco bar this Saturday. She also had a silk screen contraption and made our t-shirts. We'll be wearing our t-shirts at our taco bar / BBQ this Saturday. If you love what you see, and would like a shirt of your own, e-mail us at IlluminateIndo2009@gmail.com. As alluded to in our previous paragraph, we're hosting a taco bar / information session this Saturday, June 13. Michelle, Leela, Sarah, and I will be there in full force. We'll be sharing our individual motivations for going to Indonesia, what we'll be doing there, the types of people we will meet, and how you can help (if that is your desire). I hope you can come! It'll be a good time.
